The G0704 (or it's clones) have had very good reviews across the board. The included stand, at least with the Grizzly (and it looks identical in the PM website photo's) is nothing special though and I'm seriously considering building a proper stand for it.

Like the mini-mill, this mill has a plastic gear drive which works OK but is noisy. I will be replacing the gears with an aftermarket belt drive I am waiting for. One needs to have a drill chuck on R8 arbor, a set of R8 collets, mill vise (Kurt type recommended), and clamping kit to make use of this mill.

What are your thoughts out there between an X3 mill v. a Grizzly (BF20) G0704. It seems that weight-wise, they are in the same category. With the 0704 you get the digital height adjustment and the stand, but pay less, is there that much of a quality increase in the X3 styles, namely the G0463.

I'm looking to buy a vise for my grizzly G0704. I've narrowed it down to a 4" Glacern or KBC tool's own branded 4" precision milling vise. KMC also has Magnum 4x4" vise but I don't know too much about those. I've read lots of good reviews for the Glacern but it is a bit pricey and I would have to head cross border to get one.

Where you will take 2 or 3 passes on a big mill, the small one may require 10 or more. That's a lot of handwheel turning. My first mill was a MICRO mill ( the X1 - under 100 pounds) and I learned to do a lot with it. The weight and size were just right for me since I needed to be able to move it easily. I still use it for many things.
I like to get a bench top mill this coming spring and contemplating between the Grizzly G 0704 mill or the Precision Matthews PM-25MV mill. I unfortunately can't get a big heavy mill right now but wanted to get more input as to what the limitations are of this g0704 mill. I've heard of some problems with durability, reliability, accuracy, and precision crop up about these cheaper mills from forums, but wanted to get more input from you guys as well.

My choices quickly came down to "mill-drill or G0704/PM25". The upsides and downsides mostly balance out. I went with the G0704 for two highly technical reasons: it was on sale, and the Grizzly warehouse was a day's drive closer than Precision Mathews'.

It's a decent mill for the price, but with the induction motor, it's for LIGHT duty only! Anything larger they about a 1/4" end mill, or a 1" face mill is over taxing the machine. I use mine primarily for folder work, and/or guard slotting. Personally, I have two mills, the G0704, and a large floor model Grizzly.

That was the deciding point on my buying this mill, as opposed to other similar BF20 based mills. Nothing bad about the other variants, and some of the vendors out there are superb (PM Matthews), but the G0704 is for me, the best blank canvas for modifications.
